Two Different Exams, Two Different Approaches

While the syllabus overlaps, the skills required for each stage are fundamentally different.

1. Nature of Questions

  • Prelims: Objective (MCQs) — tests breadth and speed
  • Mains: Descriptive — tests depth and articulation

2. Preparation Approach

For Prelims: Facts, MCQs practice, current affairs recall, speed.

For Mains: Conceptual clarity, answer structure, analytical depth, regular writing.

3. Time Allocation

First 6 months: 70% conceptual clarity. Last 3 months before Prelims: 60% MCQs, 40% Mains writing.

4. The Integrated Approach

Study each topic with both Prelims (factual) and Mains (analytical) perspectives.
